September Starter

So, how did I started my September? I started it by doing something I have never done before - Freediving!

I am so thrilled typing this article right now as I'm excited to share with you my experience in Freediving. I didn't do this alone, I was with 3 of my friends and my boyfriend, then we had 5 diving mentors with us. So we were safe 😉. Three of us know how to swim while the other 2 don't. But even if you don't know how to swim, that's not a problem as the mentors will really teach you how. And now, the other 2 are very good at it and we're all very happy with their new unlocked achievement. The only requirement needed for this activity is confidence and the guts or strong will to really do this (and also supervision 😝).

Well, I admit at first, the depth of the sea itself scared me, especially the dark blue part in which it's at the edge of the coral reefs. In the back of my mind, I was like "What if there's a shark? What if I get pulled down by something or whatever creature there maybe?" I swear I had a lot of questions in my mind but my facial expression was so good at hiding them 😂. I was even freaking out on a sea snake in which the divers said that those types of sea snakes were harmless and can even be touched. There's no way I'm touching them though. Then we also saw a sea turtle! My friend was lucky as she took a video of a turtle up-close. Then we also saw a lot of colorful fishes which were very good props for the photos hahaha!

The first thing they taught us was about breathing techniques when using the snorkel and the mask. I'm a swimmer but I'm not used to using that equipment. It was hard at first, especially when I had to adjust my oxygen intake as I had to breathe through that mask the entire time. After a while, they let us swim with fins, this time. Today was my first time ever to use fins for swimming and it was hella hard and heavy. It was hard because it felt like instead that I'll be the one to control the fins, it was the fins controlling my feet. Then I started overthinking again with "What if my legs suddenly cramped? What if I couldn't swim back up due to cramps?" But then again, the divers assured us that our legs won't cramp as long as we relax and just feel as if the fins are already part of our feet. So we did.

Guess what, after few tries and few swims with the divers, we were then set for the photo ops on the darker part of the ocean, at the edge of the coral reefs, with the fishes. I was excited and silently freaking out at the same time hahaha. But I'm proud to say that I, my friends, and my boyfriend were successful with the activity. We got some really good pictures and videos. And we had a really good day with a memorable experience. Our pictures were taken while swimming down to 3-5 meters in depth. Can you believe that! The pressure was really on our ears but they taught us about equalization.

I would like to thank my friend Larsheyyy as she was the head of this idea lol, I mean she was the one who recruited us to try freediving, also to my friends who strongly pulled me into joining the group. She made appointments with her diver friends and really awesome instructors: Benrichie, Mark, Kienjie, Romel, and Dave. Thanks too to my boyfriend for accompanying me and had to take a leave from work just to be with me. He also got some really good photos.

Go love! 😘
Now I would have to take some really good rest and a long sleep. This is definitely not the last time that I'm trying this. Maybe in the next three weeks or a month after my sunburn heals as right now my skin is so red and it burns. Such an amazing experience and I say you should try it too! ❤️️
